Let's try a paradigm shift on for size. If you're struggling to keep that inner smile on your sleeve and the apple in your mouth, then welcome to the club of people that are human. Quit the self-loathe already, it's getting boring. I found something that works like a charm and my friends in clever places say it's an actual thing. I've been test driving it and so far so-freakin-chirpy! WINK! (editor's note: its only been 3 days).
Here, curiosity never killed anyone except the cat and the mess it dragged in. So try this:
1. Act like you aren’t you
Pretend you are your sister or your boyfriend or your pet and take care of yourself like you take care of them. How do you speak to them? Do you like it when they skip breakfast and then have too much mass-produced take-out for lunch? How comfortable do you make them at your house? Do you like it when they don’t exercise, go to bed late and drink toxic sugary drinks? Do you give them fresh berries when they're sick, or stale processed biscuits from a packet? How do you encourage them to be hopeful when they’re disheartened? If you can’t truly love and be nice to yourself yet then act like you aren’t you.
2. Be astonished by nothing
As you go through your day find something ordinary to be dumbfounded at – the infinity of the sky, the sounds your tongue can make, the colour of a stranger’s eyes, the layered flavours of your freshly-ground coffee. Marvel at that shit. Channel your inner hippy, switch back on your senses and tune in to the cool stuff that you somehow stopped noticing when you quit childhood.
3. Pretend you are super grateful for something you already have
What is going right for you? What are the things in your life that maybe aren’t really such a f*ck up after all? Gently nudge your attention to the good stuff when you feel yourself indulging a familiar downward spiral of despair. There’s plenty to be thankful for once you get started. E.g 1: You have eye-sight! That’s how you’re reading this screen, you darling brat. And you give a shit about your wellness. Which is way cool. Seriously, congrats.
4. Fake extreme resourcefulness
Convince yourself that you have the most brilliant ideas in the world and start scribbling down next-level solutions to anything and everything that’s obstructing your flow. You know down deep what's not working for you. Feel like you don’t have enough time in the day? Write down 3 things that can help you feel more in control. Do it now. You are smarter than you’ll admit even to yourself and you have ALL the answers you ever need. I promise.
Break a leg! Namastay xo
